A video walkthrough to show centreline directions in RAMM Map
In a follow up to the previous blog post (detecting hundreds of invalid centreline in a single network), todays post is sharing a video walkthrough of how to show the direction of centrelines in RAMM map.
Carriageway sections define the increasing linear direction of each of the roads in your RAMM database. However by default you are not able to easily see this direction as part of the centreline symbology in the map.
The good news is that RAMM map layers are configurable. So it is totally possible (and pretty easy) to get the centreline directions to show up as part of the symbology.
By adding the carriageway sections as a layer to the map, and configuring the layer settings, you can have directional arrows added to all of the displayed centrelines.
Check out the video walkthrough below which will show you exactly how to;
add the carriageway centrelines to your map
configure the layer settings to make the centrelines a bit easier to see on the map (i.e. make the line thicker)
configure the layer settings to add arrows to the centrelines, to show the running direction of the line
This is incredibly useful for getting a quick visual reference of which direction a road is running, without having to reconcile carriageway start and end names with adjacent roads or nearby features.
It is also a useful tool if you suspect the direction of a road centreline is in conflict with the carriageway section definition - which unfortunately can happen ….. (see the link at the top of the post or click here).
So make sure to test out this handy little tip next time you are viewing centrelines in RAMM Map.
