How to switch to dark mode in ArcGIS Pro
Are you a light mode or dark mode person with your apps?
I tend to use apps in ‘dark mode’, on both MacOS and iOS, at least when the option is available.
Recently though, I have been trying out the option to have the system auto-switch between the two. It is still early days with this - and I am not sure if I am sold yet.
As ArcGIS Pro is an app that I like to use exclusively in dark mode, and these MacOS settings do not apply to apps running in Parallels (for good reason), dark mode needs to be manually setup.
So in todays post we will look at how to switch your ArcGIS Pro app to dark mode. It is a pretty quick process to do from the menu.
It does require a restart of the app to take effect, so don’t try it mid project.
Follow along with the steps below to join the dark side in ArcGIS Pro.
1. Open your ArcGIS Pro application
2. From the ArcGIS Pro application window which opens, click on the Settings button in the bottom left of the screen
3. An About ArcGIS Pro window will now be on screen. From here click the Options menu button in the left hand panel
4. Under General > Application Theme there is a drop down box to toggle between light and dark modes. Choose dark mode to make the switch
5. A warning message will appear saying you need to restart the application.
6. After restarting the ArcGIS Pro app you are now living on the dark side!
These quick and easy steps let you switch your ArcGIS Pro interface over to dark mode.
If you are not a fan of dark mode, simply follow the same steps as above and choose the light option in step 4 above. After a restart of the app you will be back in light mode again.
